A backyard in Portland, a family house in Seattle, a garden in the valley, the coast in the fog, the Gorge in October. I have been photographing weddings here since 2008, and I know where the light goes.
Most of the weddings in the journal happened within a few hours of my house, and they are some of my favourite work: a wedding with everyone in it, a second wedding in a backyard with grown kids in the front row, vows renewed on the coast where they were first said, a Seattle morning that started with coffee and ended at the water.
Size does not change how I work. Available light before added light, documentary first, a little direction when it helps. If your day is loud, the pictures will be loud. If it is quiet, they will be quiet.
Vow renewals, second weddings and anniversaries are very welcome here. They grew out of To Grow Old with You, the project I have been making since 2012 with couples married fifty years and more, and they are the days that taught me what the photographs are for.
